Dispensational Proof 9
9. The Messianic Psalms
The Messianic Psalms are probably overlooked when it comes to dispensational concepts. Some Psalms deal with the King of Glory and the Holy One who is Jesus Christ. There are Psalms that clearly speak of Christ’s death (Psalm 22) and resurrection (Psalm 16). There are vivid poetic pictures of the King entering the holy mountain Zion. Even though Hebrew poetic structures are used this does not mean that they are non-literal events pictured. Even the prophets of the Old Testament used poetry to proclaim literal truth and future prophetic events. Such Psalms as chapter 2 and 24 talk about the King, who is the Messiah entering into Jerusalem in victory and glory. These also function as literal prophecies that one day will be fulfilled by Christ. Psalm 89 is a good proof that the Davidic Covenant is an eternal covenant and that David himself will rule and reign with Christ from his throne in Jerusalem. Psalm 110 is an amazing promise of how the Lord will judge the nations and rule over them. Looking beyond the first part of Jesus ministry on earth we find the picture of His current position sitting at the right hand of the Father waiting for the day God sends his Son to judge the world. His enemies on the earth will one day be His footstool. These passages and others show dispensational truths about the prophet, priest and kingly ministry of Jesus Christ in heaven and on earth.
